Allan H. Wachowich

Congratulations to the Honourable Allan H. Wachowich on his well-deserved investiture into the Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours. Affectionately known in his community as ‘the Polish Prince,’ Allan was honoured for his lifelong commitment to the law and for his volunteerism.
Allan’s family immigrated to Alberta in 1897 and settled in Opal, later moving to Edmonton in 1943. Allan obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957 and his Bachelor of Law degree in 1958. He practiced law in his brother’s firm of Kosowan & Wachowich. Allan’s judicial career culminated in his appointment as Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench in 2000 until his retirement.

Allan is still very much involved in Edmonton community. He is proud of his Polish heritage and of his Catholic faith.
